About the project

Ocean Rise — Public Art in Oslo

Ocean Rise is a mixed-reality public artwork by London-based artist Aphra Shemza, created to highlight rising sea levels and the climate crisis. The physical sculpture — made from recycled marine materials — is paired with a digital soundscape accessible via QR code.

The work was unveiled in Tøyenparken as part of the opening of Tøyenbadet, and produced in collaboration with Mowgly TV, WeCycle (an Oslo-based recycling non-profit), Oceanize (Northern Norway), and local children and members of the public.

A key part of the project was a climate-education workshop where children created illuminated jellyfish from recycled plastic bottles — recordings from the workshop were integrated into the artwork's soundscape. Recap Media was brought in as local media crew for both the workshop documentation and the final sculpture installation.

Our role

Documenting Across Two Key Moments

Recap Media documented Ocean Rise across two separate engagements — an educational workshop in 2023 and the sculpture installation and artist interview in 2024 — creating a coherent visual story from concept through to completion.

  • Workshop documentation at the Norwegian Sculptor Society — capturing children's participation, the creative process, and the collaborative atmosphere
  • Sculpture footage in Tøyenparken — multiple angles, wide establishing shots, close-up details, relationship to the park and Tøyenbadet
  • On-camera artist interview with Aphra Shemza — discussing the concept, sustainability themes, and the collaboration
  • Sculpture photography for website, press releases, and archival documentation for Oslo Kommunes kunstsamling
  • All material delivered as high-quality video and stills

Filming conditions included an active children's workshop, outdoor park with strong sunlight, and limited time windows — requiring a focus on staying efficient and unobtrusive while producing clean, consistent material.
